I’m having a tough time.  The election did not go the way I’d hoped.  In any other election cycle the loss wouldn’t feel so personal.  This one is different.

The winner has so many faults and flaws and not a single thing to qualify him for public office.  He’s also more than willing to wipe his butt with the Constitution and throw away some basic rights.

So today, I am thankful for the Bill of Rights.  Let’s take a peek at one of the most famous amendments:

Amendment I

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Pretty amazing, huh?  Even in 1791, freedom of speech, assembly, religion and redress were recognized as basic rights.  Cool way to start the Bill of Rights off.

If you’re feeling despair, hopeless, frightened, you have the tools to address the issues we will face during the next 4 years.  Use them.
